Four award winners will receive a free Infosec Boot Camp to help launch and advance their careers in cybersecurity

Mason, Ohio — December 18, 2024 Infosec Institute, a leading cybersecurity education provider and part of Cengage Group, today announced four recipients of the 2024 Infosec Accelerate Award. Established in 2018 to encourage new talent to join the cybersecurity industry and close the growing skills gap, the Accelerate Award provides each recipient with an Infosec Boot Camp and certification voucher valued at up to $4,999 to help launch and advance their cybersecurity careers.

"Infosec has been a leader in cybersecurity training for more than 20 years, and it is our responsibility to empower individuals from all backgrounds to help build the cybersecurity workforce of the future,” said Bret Fund, Infosec SVP and General Manager. “Embracing diversity in cybersecurity is not just an ethical imperative; it’s a strategic advantage for organizations. Seeing all the talented award submissions across these diverse groups leaves me hopeful for the future of this industry. We’re excited to see where these four winners grow in their careers.”

The 2024 Infosec Accelerate Award winners are:

  • Infosec Accelerate Women Award: Ime Iyonsi | River Edge, NJ
  • Infosec Accelerate BIPOC Award: Raul Cepin | Newark, NJ
  • Infosec Accelerate Military & Veteran Award: Jacob Lapin| Pittsburgh, PA
  • Infosec Accelerate LGBTQI+ Award: Calvin Robinson | Washington, D.C.

Applications were open to four groups of people statistically underrepresented in the cybersecurity industry. The applicants submitted short essays, which an internal Infosec Accelerate Award committee scored. The winners will meet with an Infosec Boot Camp expert to discuss their goals and determine which course suits their skill level and career goals.

Infosec Boot Camps are designed to support students at every step of the certification training process.

  • Before the boot camp: Students get immediate access to pre-study materials to help prepare for their boot camp and uncover knowledge gaps. This allows them to maximize their live training experience.
  • During the boot camp: Students engage in days of live online or in-person sessions led by an industry expert. This includes discussions with the instructor and fellow students, hands-on labs for technical courses, targeted certification exam prep and more.
  • After the boot camp: Students get extended access to boot camp materials and the Infosec Skills on-demand library. This allows them to take additional time to prepare for their exam, get a head start on their next certification goal or start earning CPEs.

This support before, during and after boot camps has led to industry-leading pass rates. More than 92% of Infosec students who sit for an exam pass.
