Infosec Institute Introduces Skills Verification: Using GenAI to Transform How Organizations Validate Cybersecurity Talent
April 22, 2025
GenAI-powered platform enables cybersecurity leaders to verify hands-on technical capabilities, bridging the gap between credentials and real-world performance
Mason, Ohio — April 23, 2025 — Infosec Institute, a leading cybersecurity education provider and part of Cengage Group, today announced the pilot launch of Infosec Skills Verification, a generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) powered feature within the Infosec Skills platform that objectively validates the hands-on capabilities of security talent. This innovative solution addresses one of the industry's most persistent challenges: verifying that cybersecurity professionals possess the practical, hands-on skills needed to protect organizations effectively. Infosec will showcase Skills Verification at the RSAC Conference in San Francisco, April 28–May 1, 2025, giving attendees the opportunity to experience the platform firsthand and win prizes at booth #3316 in Moscone South.
According to the ISACA State of Cybersecurity report, 95% of cybersecurity leaders say hands-on experience is important in determining if a candidate is qualified, with 73% rating it as "very important." Despite this clear industry need, organizations have struggled to verify technical proficiency beyond certifications and degrees, especially in remote hiring situations.
Skills Verification goes beyond traditional assessments by using advanced AI to evaluate not just task completion, but the approach, efficiency and problem-solving methodologies cybersecurity professionals employ. This provides organizations with valuable insights into the actual capabilities of their current and prospective team members.
"In a field where real-world skills translate directly to organizational security, the ability to verify hands-on capabilities is invaluable," said Keatron Evans, VP of Portfolio Product and AI Strategy at Infosec. "Skills Verification represents a pivotal advancement in cybersecurity talent assessment, providing leaders with objective validation of technical proficiency that was previously impossible to measure accurately. This isn't about checking boxes — it's about witnessing authentic technical mastery in action."
The ISC2 Workforce Study found that "almost 60% of respondents agree that skills gaps have significantly impacted their ability to secure the organization." Skills Verification aims to address this challenge by helping cybersecurity and learning development leaders implement more targeted and efficient upskilling initiatives, verifying that skills are actually learned and applicable in real-world scenarios.
The Skills Verification pilot program offers organizations an opportunity to help shape the future of cybersecurity skills validation. Participants will gain early access to this innovative technology while providing feedback that will influence its continued development and integration into the Infosec Skills platform.
Skills Verification builds on the recent launches of Cengage’s AI-powered insights dashboard, Cengage Student Assistant and Infosec’s Skills Navigator. These AI-powered enhancements reflect Cengage Group’s broader commitment to leverage AI technologies to personalize learning, improve student outcomes, enhance the instructor experience and ultimately connect education to real-world careers.
For those unable to attend the RSAC Conference, Infosec is accepting applications to join the Skills Verification pilot program. Interested organizations can contact Infosec below to learn more and apply.
